The leading green resort in the Maldives: PARK HYATT MALDIVES

North Huvadhoo, Gaafu Alifu Atoll, Republic of Maldives
EarthCheck certified Park Hyatt Maldives as the leading green resort in the Maldives at the recent World Travel Awards 2014.
According to Julian Moore, General Manager at the hotel, “Environmental and socially sustainable initiatives are a central part of the hotel’s culture so we are delighted to have been granted this prestigious award. Park Hyatt Maldives Hadahaa shares its pristine and largely unexplored island with many indigenous species and fragile ecosystems. Since the beginning we have been inspired by the Maldivian tradition of living in harmony with nature, so we can protect and preserve this unique environment for future generations to enjoy”.
The World Travel Awards acknowledge, reward, and celebrate excellence across all sectors of the tourism industry around the world. The WTA brand is recognized  as the ultimate hallmark of quality, with winners setting the benchmark to which all others aspire.
From its inception, environmental and socially sustainable initiatives have been a part of Park Hyatt Maldives Hadahaa’s operational culture. Hadahaa and its vastly unexplored surrounding region is home to exceptional coral reefs, indigenous fish species, and remote islands where the humble Maldivian way of life co-exist on the sea and its resources. This has empowered the resort to dedicate their resources to protect this unique and sensitive environment.
Being the first property to use EarthCheck Design Certification, the resort is resulting in best practice across including, but by no means limited to, some specifics:
  • Sustainable design and construction management
  • Traditional respect
  • Design approach and sustainable policy
  • Siting issues
  • Energy efficiency and conservation
  • Protection of air, earth and water

To improve their effort, the Park Hyatt appointed their Resident Marine Biologist as the EarthCheck Coordinator, who is responsible for identifying environmental risks, recording and monitoring our performance through bench-marking, whilst driving the environmental and social initiatives undertaken by the resort.
